This Australian bun, in the shape of a hamburger bun, inspired by the Outback bun, contains cocoa and honey which make it dark and slightly sweet. The milk makes the bread extra fluffy, and the flour sprinkled on top before baking gives it a rustic appearance.

  • 1. Mix the yeast into the water;
    Water (100 Grams) Dry Yeast (4 Grams)
    Prep time: 1 minute; Total time: 1 minute
  • 2. Mix in the flour and leave to rest until it has reached 2.5 times its initial size.

  • 1. While the starter is rising, mix together all the other ingredients and leave to rest;

  • 2. Add the starter and knead until smooth;

  • 3. Add the butter and knead again until it is fully incorporated and the dough is smooth and even;

  • 4. Make a ball and leave to rest on a floured surface;

  • 5. Separate into equal-sized portions and make balls by pressing down on the dough. Place each ball in a hamburger bun mold or in a previously greased and floured pan. Leave to rise until doubled in size;

  • 6. Preheat the oven. Coat each loaf with a little semolina, and optionally make a cross-shaped cut on the loaf, or designs as desired. Place in the oven, spray the oven with water and bake on the lowest heat setting without convection for 15 minutes;
